Abstract
Pressure ulcer is a significant nursing problem, which reflects preventable morbidity and provides a sensitive indicator for monitoring of quality of care. The purpose of this study was to :
1- Develop and implement a teaching program for nurses about the
preventive aspects of care for pressure ulcers 2- Evaluate the effectiveness of the program on a. Nurses knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) b. The patients outcome.
The study was carried out in orthopaedic, medical department and intensive care unite of Shebin El-Kome Teaching and University Hospital in Menoufiya Gavernorate.
To achieve the purpose of this study a quasi-experimental design was utilized. A conveniente sample including 30 nurses and 60 patients who were chosen to be the subjects of the study based on the following criteria: a) 30 nurses who cover day and night shift; b) 60 newly admitted male and female adult patients who were admitted within 48 hours, without existing pressure, ulcers in initial skin assessment. Patients were divided into two equal groups of 30 each constituting a study and control groups. The study group was cared for by the nurses who received the group. Lastly, the study showed that, the most common sites of pressure ulcers in the study and control groups were on the buttocks (10% and 43.3% respectively).
