Abstract

The aim of this study was to assess urinary RBP in SLE patients with and without evidence of renal disease. The study also aimed to find out if urinary RBP could indicate subclinical nephropathy and if its measurement might have a role in the early diagnosis and subsequent monitoring of renal disease in SLE.
The study was conducted on 22 patients with SLE, regularly attending the Pediatric Allergy and Immunology Clinic, Children’s Hospital, Ain Shams University. They were all females, their ages ranged between 6 to 18 years, with a mean age of 14.4 ± 3.6 years. The mean duration of their illness was 4.4 ± 2.8 years.
Patients were categorized into two groups:
-Group I (non-renal SLE patients) which included 7 patients, who had no clinical or laboratory evidence of renal disease.
