Abstract Viral hepatitis is a systemic infection in which the principle clinical manifestations are caused by hepatic cell necrosis and inflammation. Long ago there were two different types of viral hepatitis caused by two immunological distinct viruses. Infectious hepatitis, short incubation hepatitis, or hepatitis A(HAV), and serum hepatitis, homolgous serum jaundice, long incubation hepatitis, or hepatitis B(HBV). It is now evident that at least three additional types exist; these are hepatitis C(HCV), hepatitis D or delta hepatitis (HDV) and hepatitis E (HEV). |
