Abstract The area from Alexandria city until Damnhour city along both sides of El-Mahmoudia Canal is considered to be agricultural territory. Water supply lines are not connected to this area, therefore, the inhabitants use groundwater wells in drinking, cooking and various domestic purposes. The local groundwater reservoir, could be, affected with different sources of chemical pollution due to its geographic position (influenced with Lake Idku water body) and as a result of industrial effluents disposed from two factories for spin and artificial silk located among this agricultural community. The aim of this work is to assess the magnitude of contamination of the drinked groundwater by different types of chemical pollutants. In addition, speciation of cadmium and zinc have been estimated to demonstrate in which forms these metals are found in order to show to what extent metal pollution levels are enhanced. The statistical measurments used in this study are the correlation coefficient and regression analysis. To achieve these objectives, of the present work thirty three groundwater wells were sampled by manual suction pumps in the area between 31° - 31° 14’ north and 30° 05’ -30° 20’ east. The studied parameters are pH and EC levels which are determined immediately using pH meter and conductivity meter |
