Abstract
This study was carried out on twenty five patients admitted to the ICU of the Casuality Department in Alexandria Main University Hospital, and included 13 female patients (52%) and 12 male patients. Among both males and females the age range was between 17-65 years with a mean of 37±12 years. The age of males ranged between 25-65 years with a mean of 37.5±14 , and the age of female patients ranged between 17-25 years with a mean value of 36.5±10.74 years .
A complete history taken as regards the complaints, past history of similar attacks as well as previous therapy. Full clinical examination was done with particular attention to the cardiovascular system. Routine laboratory investigations (haemoglobin %, random and fasting blood sugar level, serum urea and serum creatinine) were done for the patients. ECG initially for detection of the attack as well as monitoring of all patients and ECG was done after termination of the attack. Other laboratory investigations were done for certain patients as serum cardiac enzymes to complete the picture. X ray chest, echocardiography were done for selected patients.
The most prevelant clinical symptom was palpitation (96%) which may be associated with chest pain in (36%), polyuria in 28%, fainting in 24% and anxiety in 20%. The
