Abstract

A new method of polymerization of resoreinol by using anhydrous aluminum chloride as primary catalyst and ferric chloride as secondary catalyst is introduced, the yield increasing polymerization time till 4 hours above which practically there is no increase in yield. Also yield increases by increasing polymerization temperature till it reaches 130c above which there is practically no increase in the yield increasing ferric chloride concentration increase the yield.
The synthesized pdhp is used as heat stabilizer for pvc the brabender study of the effect of 0.5% pdhp on pvc showed that pvc compounded with pdhp does not show any decomposition up to 29 minutes. This value is higher by 6.9 times than that for the traditional heat stabilizer (lead carbonate) which is 9 minutes only. The time of fusion of pvc is reduced by 2.5 times.
