Abstract

The lifestyle decisions client makes each day become habitual behavioral patterns that influence their risk of developing CHD. Smoking, physical inactivity, obesity & a diet high in saturated fats are all associated with CHD. The major of risk factors associated with CHD, only one – family history of heart disease – is not related to lifestyle. Those related to lifestyle include smoking, hypertension, diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, over weight & physical inactivity. Changing these lifestyle habits can reduce the risk of developing CHD & can even reverse CHD. nThe aim of this study was to explore the lifestyle associated with a greater incidence of CHD patients among middle aged. This has been done through the following objectives; to identify different risk factors associated with increased incidence of CHD, & to determine modifiable risk factors associated with increased incidence of CHD, & to determine non modifiable risk factors associated with increased risk of CHD & to determine a adult lifestyle behavior affects heart disease risk. The study was conducted in Medical Departments, Intensive Care Units, Out Patient’s Clinics Of Menoufyia University Hospital. A convenience sample of two hundred CHD patients, both genders. Patients were aged from 35 to 55 years old. The data collection tools consisted of two tools. The first tool was an interview questionnaire schedule, which consisted of eight parts. These involved sociodemographic data, family history, patient’s medical history, symptoms, social history, female history, physical examination & biochemical study. The second tool was healthstyle questionnaire sheet. These involved Assessment of lifestyle incloding cigarette somking, alcohol and drugs, eating habits , exercise / fitness , stress control & safety . A pilot study was carried out on 20 CHD patients. Necessary modifications were done. The researcher interviewed patients. Data analysis was done using appropriate significant tests. The main finding of the study revealed that 67.0 % of patients were aged from 50 – 55 years, with mean 49.31 + 5.89 years. As regards gender, the majority of patients (70.5 %) were male. Slightly more than half of patients (54.0%) were illiterate. The finding showed that there were many risk factors of CHD; 46.5 % of patients were hypertensive, 48.0 % of patients were cigarette smoking, 47.5 % of female patients were used oral contraceptive pills. 40.7 % of female patients had 1 – 3 previous abortions, 84.7 % of female patients were at age of menopause, 54 % of patients were obese with BMI ³ 27.5, 63.0 % of patients their blood cholesterol level was ³ 200 mg/dl. The finding showed that there were many lifestyle behaviors affecting CHD patients as smoking 53.5 % practice serious & unnecessary risks with health, 53.5 % of patients were need more information about the risks they were facing related to their eating habits & 41.5 % of patients were need more information about the risks they were facing related to their Exercise / fitness habits. It is concluded that, blood cholesterol level was significantly higher with eating habits. The study also revealed that BMI was significantly higher with exercise habits. It is recommended that health care providers must counsel patients about their particular lifestyle behaviors & recommended a activities that promote their well being, screening programs must be done for early detection of symptomatic & a symptomatic hypercholesterolemia, hypertension & diabetes. Additionally, risk factors need to be well controlled particularly smoking, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, diabetes, obesity & physical inactivity .
