Abstract

This study deals with Artificial Intelligence, as a successful tool in architectural design. It specifically emphasizes its success in the field of energy efficiency in buildings.
It is essential for this study to define artificial intelligence (AI), techniques used, and engineering applications specifically used in intelligent design of buildings. 1\s well as analyzing and representing database needed for this kind of process, when applied to designing energy efficient buildings. It should be notified that the concept adopted here is minimization of fuel consumption during building life cycle. A proposed database is classified into:
• Domain independent Database: energy consumption parameters before and during constl1lction, human quality factors, and mechanical/electrical operation during building life cycle.
• Domain Specific Database: design parameters for both spatial and transitional elements of the building.
It is an objective to constl1lct a model for the process and investigation criteria for evaluating energy efficiency in buildings, and thus validating applicability of engineering applications of Artificial Intelligence on the design process of energy efficient buildings.
In general, this work attempts to study the following:
- The relationship between energy and the building, taking into consideration that the building is a heavy consumer.
- Artificial intelligence applications that may assist in the design process of an energy efficient building.
- Database needed for the process of intelligent design of energy efficient buildings
- The process of intelligent design of energy efficient buildings.
- Applicability of engineering applications of artificial intelligence in this process.
