Abstract A study of the microstructures and mechanical behaviour of eutetic composites unidirectionally solidified under different conditions of growth rates and temperature gradients. the rod like al - Al3Ni-ai, ni eutetic composite, is prepared from commercial purity materials. this is achieved by a specially constructed unidirectional solidification apparatus capable of giving growth rates in the range 3.57 - 3.60 cm.m 1, and temperature gradients in the range 45 - 480*c. cm`. the tensile, compressive and fatigue properties of the composites are analysed and related to the composite structures. metallographic examination of the deformed and fractured specimens is perforinied to study the deformation and fracture mechanism under different modes of testing |
