Abstract Pregnancy imposes a great physiological stress. The main metabolic fluid and hormonal changes that the pregnant female experiences make pregnancy a useful time to diagnose conditions that ordinarily would be considered as ”Diabetes Mellitus” and that may be first become manifested during pregnancy. Data in this area is deficient in Egypt, accordingly, it is highly informative to study the prevalence of gestational diabetes among rural pregnant women . This study was conducted at maternal and child Health centers and ante-natal out-patient clinic of the university Hospital, among 150rural pregnant women were attending those places for ante-natal care. Data were collected through questionnaire. The present study recommended that : 1 – Early detection and care of gestational diabetes should be included in Maternal and center nurses instructions and counseling to ante-natal women. 2- Routine laboratory investigations for ante-natal clients should include screening test for gestational diabetes, especially for the high risk group. 3 – Further studies related to gestational diabetes is recommended especially with larger samples and among different sectors of population. |
