Abstract Acute myocardial infarction is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Occlusive thrombus in the absence of significant collateral vessels most often results in acute ST-segment elevation Myocardial infarction (STEMI) (Deepak p.Vive Kananthan and Micheal A. Lauer). The use of thrombolysis recanalyzes the thrombotic occlusion by lysing the fibrin-rich elements, resulting in restoration of coronary blood flow. Streptokinase (SK) is a reasonable alternative to 2nd or 3rd generation agents (Alteplase tpa, Reteplase) Mark et al. Clopidogrel (Plavix) is an antiplatelet aggregation which acts by inhibiting ADP-induced platelet activation (selective antagonism). It is indicated for the reduction of the atherosclerotic events (MI, stroke, vascular death) in patients with atherosclerosis documented by recent stroke (CAPRIE study 1996). |
